Cash for the Quest

So, I've set myself a quest, a Quest for the Ultimate Gaming Set-up, Ultimate in the way that I'll own all the current consoles and the equipment to fully enjoy it.

The one aspect I don't think I've touched upon in describing my quest is how exactly I'm going to make all this money online. So I thought I'd telly up all my current online earnings along with descriptions of the programs I use and how I use them. I actually really suck at making money online and I can only imagine what people with real talent could possibly earn online.

My total online earnings, what I used to earn it and how I earned it.

Google AdSense - Total Paid $866.69 - Currently 0wed $98.43.
The perfect all rounder, got a site, a blog, add AdSense to it, generate traffic to the sites and you should earn something, all a visitor needs to do is click on an ad and you'll earn some money.

King of Swords - Currently Owed $56.95.
Pick products to promote and generate targeted traffic to your affiliate links, 10% starting commission per sale.

AffiliateFuture - Currently Owed $ 76.00.
Pick products and services to promote, there's quite a few "lead" opportunities available, such as email submit programs, a visitor to your site submits their email and you get paid $1 a pop.

Chitika - Total Paid $47.68 - Currently Owed $5.09.
A lot like AdSense but there's a lot of other options available. Set it and forget it for the most part, works best on product related sites.

Amazon - Total Paid $116.42 - Currently Owed $94.95.
Pick from thousands of products to promote, generate targeted traffic and hopefully send them a buyer, starting commission 4%.

WidgetBucks - Total Paid $51.20 - Currently Owed $1.41.
Kind of like AdSense and Chitika, set it and forget it, works best on product related sites.

PayU2blog - Total Paid $715.
A payed to blog service, they pay me $5 to make a blog post, most of the assignments deal with Real Estate, drug rehab and sinks, great money earner if you're not to worried about selling your sole.

Revver - Total Paid $133.93 - Currently Owed $ 5.43.
A video sharing site that shares it's earnings with its users.

Payperpost - Total Paid $200.00.
Just like PayU2blog, only the payments vary per post based on the status of your site.

Text Link Ads - Total Paid $325.54 - Currently Owned $36.90.
Sell links on you site for a monthly fee, just keeps ticking over and I have no idea how to stop it.

Misc Stuff - $260

Total paid out so far: $2456.46, most of this has already been spent, so it doesn't count towards the quest.
Total owed to me: $635.16, this amount will go towards the quest.

So I've actually got enough for a PS3, but I think I'll hold off until I have enough for an HD-TV. There are loads of other ways to make cash online, it is possible, all this money I've earned for the most part is not from Game Junker but other blogs and sites I work on. It's all about web estate, create some blogs, let them mature and grow and eventually your earnings will as well, it's a little bit more involved than that, but if you can get the traffic you'll make the cash.

Will Little Big Planet be as big as Youtube?

Can anyone else see this happening? The tools are there for the insomniac geniuses to create marvelous creations and to garner evangelical followers, while the rest of us browse through a myriad of crappy levels only to return to the stars. Once in awhile a level will appear that's the hot shit, everyone will have to play through it, share it, but once everyone's had their fill it'll be onto the next hot thing.

Stars will rise and fall, cliques will form and eventually everyone will be rude as fuck.

Judging by the reactions of the recent beta release, Little Big Planet looks to be a solid and polished game, all it needs now is the no-life creation stations and it'll be set to be as big as Youtube.

I'm Aiming for a PS3 Next

Seeing that I now own at least one gaming system, the Sony PSP, I think I'll set my sites a Playstation 3 next. The only thing with choosing a nex-gen console like that beast is I'm going to need a beast of a TV to fully enjoy it, so I guess I'm aiming for a PS3 and a nice HDTV.

So all up I need to earn me about $3000 online, convert that from U.S to NZ dollars and it should be more than enough.

Faze one of the ultimate gaming quest complete

So if you're still following Game Junker (haven't posted in awhile and probably never had any followers) you may remember that I was on a quest to own the ultimate gaming set-up by the end of 2007 using only money I managed to earn online, well that date rolled on by and I had nothing to show for it, no PS3, no 360, dang I didn't even have a T.V.

What had happened was my priorities changed and I used that money to go on a Christmas vacation, I had earned enough online to buy at least a 360 and PS3, or a nice HD-TV.

So after failing it I just plum forgot about it, until a few weeks ago when I got an online payment and used that money to buy a PSP, didn't even occur to me until now that I had completed faze one of my quest, at least now I own a gaming platform.

So after that realization I now know My Quest is On again.

So lets go over the Specs:

Holy crap that's a lot, comes in at just over $11,000, so I'm gonna need some time to make it happen or I could just work harder online, time to get into affiliate marketing. So I'm gonna give myself a year to get to job done.

Connectivity, the downfall of the Xbox

Who would have thought... this really is the year of the PlayStation 3. With sales up across the board for the PS3, with Microsoft seemingly fumbling with every step they take, who would have thought.

It makes me think what is Microsoft really up to? was the 360 just a spanner in the works of Sony's plans, are they trying to buy time to usher in the age of digital distribution. What is it? because frankly the Xbox 360 seems almost dead.

I feel it would be a huge mistake for Microsoft to dismiss connectivity, their HD-DVD player was an add-on for crumpets sake. The direction Sony is going in is all about connectivity and perfecting it, their PSPs hook up with PS3s, PSPs hook up with Blu-ray recorders, their PS3s will hook up with cell phones, PS3s will record Live T.V, Cameras, memory cards, Wi-Fi, the list goes on.

And who will be ready for Digital Distribution? Sony will. Microsoft has missed a step and forgotten all about where people will store their downloads.

Second Skin looks like a pretty interesting film, it takes a look at the lives of some video gamers who spend a lot of time playing MMOs, bellow is the trailer.

I can relate to it, I spent a lot of time back in the day playing Runescape, eventually moving onto bigger MMOs like Lineage 1 then Asheron's Call 2.

I spent a lot of time playing First Person Shooters as well, thankfully on some level I no longer have the equipment to play any of these to a satisfactory level.

Maybe this is why I blog, it's like a game, except I expect to be making huge change by doing it and hopefully buy a suit of armor with the profits.

Seeing that I don't get to play many games these days I end up watching a lot of videos like this one over at gamersyde.com. I asked to my brother if I could borrow his 360 the other day as it's just gathering dust on top of his dresser, that made him pause for a good excuse not to lend it to me, so I just said fuck it.

Why is Microsoft all up in Blu-Rays Business?

Which one do you support, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD and why?

Well I'm going to have to choose a side here, as far as game related I'm going with Blu-Ray.

I'd rather go with the one that's not an add on and doesn't seem to be here just to piss people off. That is Blu-Ray my friends, sure you don't need all that space if you're not worried about the best possible experience available.

If you take the Wii for example, you don't need the most powerful or even the system with the best graphics to succeed, production costs are down and you make more money. This is were I think Microsoft wants to be, making games at lower cost and eventually delivering them all through digital means, cutting out physical production of disks and packaging, means more bling bling for them.

So why the idea that the blu-ray is wasted space? maybe a game at 40GB would be a pain in the ass to download, maybe filling 40GB worth of compressed game would take ages for developers to produce, if you don't have a product to sell then you ain't making money are you. Quick turn around is where the moneys at and making the most advanced games possible just ain't going to hack it.

Though why is Microsoft with their Xbox 360 dipping its toes where it really doesn't belong, you can't even play HD-DVDs on it without an add-on, why? because they want Blu-Ray to fail. A game on Blu-Ray has the potential to be fully uncompressed, compression of audio, textures etc reduces quality. With a mint entertainment set-up I would want every bit of audio and imagery to be at its fullest, not compressed.

If Blu-Ray fails that means MS doesn't have to go all out in producing top notch audio and graphics, games will be smaller in file size, smaller games means quicker turn around, which means more product to sell. Also with the way they want to deliver games digitally, smaller file size means more people willing to download the games.

Another reason at this point in time is that they don't have digital delivery set-up for large scale games, I really don't think people would be willing to download 10 GB files onto a hard drive that would only hold 12 such titles.

That's why I'm going with Blu-Ray, it's the right format for this point in time, it doesn't over reach what it can handle and has oodles of potential left in it.

Sure the Xbox 360 has loads more quality titles than the PS3, but I feel you can only compress so much before you come to a halt and nothing advances. Blu-Ray is still in the shallow end of its potential with a flood to come.

I just hate that Microsoft is all up in its business with no real benefit to its own console, coz you know their next machine probably won't even have a disk tray.

Anyway if you read this far, remember this is a rant that went well unfocused and went from HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray to 360 vs PS3.

Below is a video from the Sony blog which shows some of the features in the upcoming 2.0 firmware update.

I've always wondered why Sony didn't wait an extra year before releasing the PlayStation 3, could have had some of these features right out of the box, I also have the feeling that because some of these features are kind of ground breaking and new to consoles, for example the remote play feature with the PSP, that Sony needs to release them slowly, kind of testing them as they go.

I only just realized that I could be half way around the world with a PSP and stream movies and junk from a PS3 at home, interact with my PC and I just heard that with the PlayStation Eye I could use it as a security camera in conjunction with remote play and a PSP, though just a rumor me thinks.

PS3 for great, ground breaking features, to be released slowly.

Now the video got me thinking, I remember in the Atari days there were cheap imitations that tried to cash in on the image of Atari and it has happened with nearly every successful gaming platform I can remember, the Gameboy, the PSOne etc.

Now most of the places you can find this junk are funnily enough in the imitation $1 shops like the 1,2,3 dollar shop or the Buck Fifty shop (made up for the most part, but you catch my drift), we got loads of these types of shops around here that sell knockoff clothing and products and I gotta say some of the the products are ridiculous and really funny at the same time.

I guess keep checking out Game Junker because these products are cheap and plenty available so I may just make some posts about them.

This is one of the coolest action sequences I have ever seen and as far as I can tell it's a user movie, not from some big budget hollywood studio.

Dead Fantasy puts the gals of Final Fantasy up against the gals of Dead or Alive, the whole clip is action packed from start to finish and leaves with a cliffhanger.

The gametrailers user is known as montyoum and has a few other movies that I'm about to check out, millions of views on those ones so they must be as good as the one below.

Frick it I'm going news, when I can't comment on news I'm spending hours writing original content, that means less posts here.

Onto the news,

"Hitachi has developed a prototype four layer Blu-Ray disc capable of holding 100GB of data." Via PC Pro.

That amount of space for one game would be insane and many people seem to think it's unnecessary, well mainly 360 owners. At this point in time I don't think any games developers would be near interested in making a game that would fill that kind of space, mind you if you fill it with songs and talk back radio, grand theft auto for example, that would make it easier for them, probably.

I don't want to sound like a fanboy or nothing because I enjoy both systems, having that much untapped space holds a lot more possibilities for Blu-ray and PlayStation 3 than what the Xbox 360 can currently handle, though possibilities ain't putting games into my brothers PS3 now is it.

What ever happened to Chad Warden?

If you don't know who Chad Warden is, here's a reminder.

Why PS3 is better than the Wii and 360

Chad Warden judging from that video is the biggest PS Triple Fanboy out there, he has three videos on youtube which have had about 1 million views and about 300 video responses. I think this is Chad Warden's blog, it doesn't seem to have been updated in awhile.

So the question is "What ever happened to Chad Warden", to me it seems like he dropped off of the radar not long after his videos got popular and was never heard from again, as Chad Warden anyway, but why? if he had kept things up maybe he'd be even more popular than he is now. My theories are that either it was to much for him or it's all an act. On the theory that it was all just to much, he has got a lot of hate directed towards him and some people couldn't handle that kind of attention, but he doesn't seem like that kind of fella.

The second theory I like more, if it is all just an act what is it in aid of? well money, judging from the amount of comments on his blog and in my experience he must have had quite a lot of traffic to the blog, here's where the money comes in, no matter where you go on his blog he has advertising, now I don't know how much traffic it has had, but say if it has had 1 million hits he could have possibly made $5,000, but not knowing his traffic who knows how much he could have made.

As far as I can tell the last anyone ever heard from him was not long after his last video upload April 17 2007. So the question still remains, What ever Happened to Chad Warden?

Can you remember the first online multiplayer game you ever played, I'm sure most do. I remember mine and if you've heard of it you may also know about its reputation as being somewhat of a play ground for foul mouthed stealing dealing youngsters, the game I am talking about is RuneScape.

I played this game a lot and I think I got to level 70, I can't really tell anymore, it's been like 5 years since I last logged in and it's changed a lot and is still thriving.

I don't have any use for it any more, but I would still like to keep the account, so I thought to myself "I may just hold a drop party" I don't know when, but when I do decide to announce it I'll update this blog with the info.

I think the reason I stopped playing RuneScape was that there wasn't much else to achieve, I like the challenge of getting to a point, but most of the time I don't like the destination, so if I do ever decide to play RuneScape again, I'll start from scratch.

Didn't go to PAX? watch these

So who went to PAX 2007 (Penny Arcade Expo)?, I didn't, I had no idea what it was until after watching a few episodes of NoobToob, they went and it looked like they had a great time. I may be a little late with this post, the expo was just over a month ago, but why not go there through home movies of the event, I save on the dough and I'm guessing I don't have to smell people.

So after I finish my quest I may begin saving for PAX 2008, because judging by the collection of PAX videos below, I'm gonna wanna be there.

My Quest for the Ultimate Gaming Set-up Update

With a couple of paychecks on their way I should be debt free so that means I should be able to pour all my online earnings into my Ultimate Gaming System Quest, including last months earnings.

In September I made a total of $296.08 which means I now have to generate $2679.92 online and I have 3 months to do it, like I said before I know how to make money online it's just a matter of working hard, making money online isn't easy, well, not until you reach certain milestones, then it becomes easier.

I don't really want to get into the whole money making thing here, to learn how I earn check out my money making blog, Blogging with Random Shock.

Other than that I hope for the month of October to make at least US$1,000 in online earnings, that should get me an Xbox Elite and a Sony PSP and maybe a Nintendo DS.

It may not be what you're thinking but you can probably already tell that from the screen below, I remember playing the version below and the Xbox version, great games for sure.

I may just give up on my quest and go retro, I had some of the best times playing my Sega Genesis all night long and pausing it to pick up where I left off the next day, fried my Atari doing that.

I'm wondering if I should go all newsy with this blog... I say as tumble weeds pass me by, na screw that.

Halo 3 Launch party was as daunting as a stage full of hot girls

Just got back from the Halo 3 midnight launch party down here in New Zealand, I hadn't been to any kind of game launch since me and my brother picked up the PS2 a few years back, strange thing is I felt the exact same age as I did back then this time round.

Felt all geeky, wondering what people would think, hoping on hope no hot girls were there, this time however I didn't give a shit, but those cool nervous feelings were kind of there, felt all nostalgic.

The store had quite a few people there, mostly buying toasters and other junk and luck would have it, hot chicks on the check outs. We headed off to the games section and mould about a little trying to look as cool as we could and eventually grabbed a copy of Halo 3 and headed for the check out. Trying to act cool in front of the strange sight of a hot chick in a Halo t-shirt we completed the transaction and headed for the exit, where the alarm went off, there went all the cool we managed to build up.

Brang back a few memories, made me feel like a geeky teenager again and I've got to say that I am keen as ever to fulfill my ultimate gaming system quest, I don't think I've been in a games shop for a couple of years now and just being there seeing the various systems on display, I felt like a kid in a candy store, may need to add a PSP and DS to my list, was a little shocked by the prices though PS3 $1199 + extra controller and two games and the 120GB back Elite 360 at $799, New Zealand dollars mind you.

Halo 3 Makes Fanboys Cry

Everyone will soon have their Halo 3 fix, though some have gotten in early and some have even shared their opinions of the game.

I've read a few in various places and most seem pretty positive, though the campaign mode seems from what I've read may be a little short, but hey that's not what you buy Halo 3 for is it, it's multiplayer that everyone will be glued to for months on end.

What's scary though is that for those that have played the game and shared their opinions, if their view is anything other than stellar they get beat down in a torrent of abuse and paranoid disbelief, even when evidence is presented. The expectations and belief that Halo 3 will be the "best game ever" is shocking and reminds of a heated debate between an atheist and a Christian, "if you don't believe what I believe then you are wrong" all logic seems to be thrown out the window and becomes a matter of belief, sure the release of Halo 3 is probably going be the biggest thing since the invention of the wheel, but you don't need to be a fanboy about it.

I liked Halo 1, Halo 2 for me seemed more of the same and my expectations of what I have seen of Halo 3 is about the same as that of Halo 2, but I'll leave my judgement of it until I have actually played it. My only concern is that with so many pre-ordered copies will anyone even look at another 360 title in the coming months?

My Quest for the Ultimate Gaming Set-up

Since I don't own any of this gens consoles and I have to go to my bros house to play em, I've decided to go on a quest, a quest to own the ultimate gaming set-up by the end of the year using only money I have earned online.

Sure I could go and put these on lay away or even hire purchase the buggers, but truthfully I can't afford to do that. I make a descent amount of pocket cash from my various blogs, but at the moment I'm using those earnings to pay off a few items I currently have ticked up, but if I put the work in I should be able to make good amounts of money online.

So this brings me to my quest, by the end of this year I hope to have made enough cash online to not only pay off all my debts but to also buy a new PS3, a new Xbox 360, a new Wii and a big ass HD-TV, all of this and money to spare to sponsor a kid in Africa maybe even ten kids if I can pull this off.

At my current level of online earnings I'll only have about $800 U.S by X-mas and I'm going to need to have at least $3,000 U.S to fulfill my quest by this time, I should be able to achieve this, I know how to make money online the only thing is, it's dang hard work, so I'd better get started.

Real Halo Warthog Down here in New Zealand

From what I can gather this is video of either the Bungie folks or the Weta Workshop dudes fooling around with a real life Halo Warthog.

The Warthog was made for the live action shorts that are being released.

Anyway I'm twenty minutes for Weta Workshops and my brother is working on some of the sets down there, I should really get out more, try and have a nosey or something.

This guy is like Napoleon Dynamite and a not so gansta Chad Warden rolled into one, is he havin a laugh? and he's comparing it to the 360 of all machines, PS3 would have been an easier target.

My only impression of the Wii is that it is fun, but not having played on one or even seen one I can't really comment on what this guy has to say.

I loved Halo back in the day, played the entire game co-op with my brother, played Halo 2 co-op with my bro as well, but it didn't have that same feel, seemed like more of the same, but shorter.

I hope with Halo 3 it's not like that, it looks it though. Master Chief will probably die and all the xbots will cry, judgeing from the commercials anyway.

MS seem to going for that same emotional feel that worked so well for the Gears of War ad. Great game, to short.

Cheap PS3 or Maybe Even Free

I want a PS3, don't you? problem is I have no cash so I figured I'd explore some of the options available to me.

So here's my options:

1. Online Shopping Deals.
2. Auction Sites like eBay.
3. Free Gift Sites.
4. The Local Stores.

1. Online Shopping Deals
I usually keep an eye on online shopping sites like Amazon, just to see if they have any promotions or package deals going, sometimes it feels like I would be missing out on a good deal if I just went out the the local game shop.

2. Auction Sites like eBay
I've been browsing a few sites like this trying to find a cheap PlayStation 3, but what I've found is that they usually get up to near retail prices anyway, you'll probably see some eBay auctions in the sidebar of this blog just to the right, some of the prices are pretty cheap, but it depends on how the bidding ends up. I mean if you're willing to sell something you bought for so much in the first place I don't think you would want to much less than what you payed.

3. Free Gift Sites
Some of you may know about these Free Gift sites and most of you probably think they're a scam, well I'm here to tell ya some of them aren't. The usual deal with those sites is that you sign-up, complete a free trial offer (usually involves a credit card), get 5 of your friends to do the same and they'll send you out your free gift. Now I can't participate in these sites because the majority require that you be a U.S citizen, which I'm not. But I did do a lot of research trying to find one that would allow world wide participation, but I came up empty handed.

What I did find though was a very large community of people who do these things almost professionally, they'll tell ya which sites are scams, which are legit and will even trade sign-ups with ya so you don't have to convince five of your friends to. Check out these two forums, both have review sections of freebie sites detailing if they worth the effort or if they payoff, the main sections however are the referral trading sections where you can find people to sign-up under you and in return you'll sign-up under them, it's a tricky business though so I'd suggest reading all the guides they have on offer. It's amazing to see that these freebie sites really do pay off, if you know what you're doing that is. Here's the two forums, Anything 4 Free Forums, Free iPod Guide Forums.

4. The Local Stores
The final option, probably the most expensive and boring of the lot, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up using this option, just save up my pingas and off the the local K-Mart or game shop I skip to my loo, a cheap PS3 may not be on the cards for me.

Anyway if you're a U.S citizen I really do suggest you check out the Freebie forums, they really do work, you just have to up your knowledge and know how to work them, wish I could use them.

PS3 Home, a new way to circle jerk.

The one thing about PlayStation Home that I find most interesting is the apartment feature and my guess is that it'll take the circle jerk to a whole nother level.

So you have this space that you can customize, you can invite friends over and you can stream videos from your PS3s Hard Drive, sounds like a recipe for a dirty stag party to me.

On another note, say it's Friday night and you want to get drunk, but for some reason you have no real life friends, the old solution to that problem would be to pop in "Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigalow", with bottle in hand, sit back and drink yourself to sleep. Though with PlayStation Home on the way you'll never have to worry about drinking yourself to sleep ever again, just invite some PSN friends over, crank up the tunes, head sets ready, a beer supply to last you the night, sit back and watch as everyone gets wasted in your virtual home.

What's more, if the urge takes you and your PSN pals, why not take a drunken walk down to the arcade or the lobby and if future promises are fulfilled why not catch a live event streamed out over PS Home. If not y'all can jump into some multiplayer action if you want.

You may even find that your Home space is the place to be on a Friday night with loads of PSN peoples wanting an invite, maybe even some PSN chicks (what's the ratio boys?, hmm... unlikely).

With the customization feature of your personal Home space you can have it looking like your moms basement, a sick crib, a gaming nerds heaven or a porn palace in no time at all, the choice is yours (probably, if not, all I'm buying is T.Vs, stereos and picture frames).

My guess is that Home will feel small at first, no worries though, just concentrate on making your apartment look and feel super cool, so cool that you'll win awards or something? anyway, eventually more spaces will be added and it'll be time to get out and explore, adult industry Blu-Ray lobby anyone, probably never happen.

Looks a little retarded to me, but hey I couldn't do any better. What's up with video games and cosplay, sure the chicks look cute and all but they move so dang goofy. This video had to be of something PS3... 500Gb Hard Drive with a Playstation 3 Video

Pretty cool video showing just how flexible the PS3 really is, this dudes got a 500GB external Hard Drive hooked up to his PlayStation 3, he illustrates this buy showing it on his PSP using remote play.

I really don't know how this remote play thing works, sounds like it's been around for ages, but it amazes me how he can stream a movie from his PS3 to his PSP using Wi-Fi or something, I'd probably use it to listen to music, WALK MAN styles.

I don't own any consoles, but my brother has a 360 and a PS3 and I play those when I get the chance.
